







The coronavirus outbreak has had a huge impact on the economy, creating disturbance in different industries such as tourism, retail, transportation and more. The digital industry is also rattled by the virus; wherein huge digital companies have canceled their event due to the aforementioned virus.

Facebook cancelled the F8 developer conference, the company’s biggest event of the year wherein typically CEO Mark Zuckerberg addresses the world on Facebook’s newest developments and challenges. Instead, it was announced that he will hold a local gathering for developers and online events.
Apple also stated that they will miss their quarterly revenue due to the effects of coronavirus. Meanwhile, Airbnb made a program entitled “More Flexible Reservations” which allows travelers to cancel their reservations without charging them, and requires the host to refund the reservation regardless of any previous contracted cancellation policy. Airbnb’s service fees for trips booked through June 1 will be refunded with travel coupons.
In terms of E-Commerce businesses, a lot of consumers have started to stay away from purchasing things online, because most of the products being sold online are from China. Many people are paranoid that the disease may be transferred to them upon receipt of the online purchase. Coronavirus has had a huge impact in the entertainment business as well with many variety shows, music shows and other entertainment shows opting not to have a live audience due to the risk of contracting the virus.
As the COVID-19 spreads, so do cyberbullying and xenophobic social media posts. Viral videos and posts that discriminate against Asians especially Chinese have been going around the past few months. A lot of people are blaming the Chinese for the outbreak and instead of helping to lessen the burden of people, online bashers continue to throw shade.
