If you own a small local business – say for example Bob’s Bacon and Burgers – you would want everyone to find it whenever they are looking for a reputable place to eat bacon and burgers.
Now more than ever, customers are coming to social media to evaluate service-centered businesses: restaurants, salons, bars, online retail stores, etc. If you haven’t optimized your business for Facebook, you have already fallen behind.
In the digital era, your business’ social presence can greatly impact your search ranking on Google’s SERP. As you would have already noticed whenever you are searching for a business online, the top results will often include Facebook pages.
Luckily for you, John Rampton of Forbes shared five tips to help your business gain advantage in today’s fierce competition.
Brand Name/URL Must Match
Make sure that your brand name and Facebook URL match. This increases your chances of being discovered by both search engines and Facebook. You can also take this opportunity to tell your customers what you are all about. Also, make sure that you are selecting the right categories for your business. If you are a local business, place it under the “Local” category including all applicable subcategories to help you show up for other relevant searches.
Write a Complete Profile
This is your “About” page. This will include details about your business such as who you are, where you are, what time you are open, and what food/services/products do you serve/offer. Think of it as your Facebook sales pitch. Searches were also pulled directly from Facebook’s “About” pages 60 – 80% of the time including the Company Overview and Location fields.
Content: #realtalk
Content is a pretty big deal anywhere on the internet, including social media. In fact, seven of the ten most important factors in SEO ranking are based on social media activity. If you want better SEO rankings, you better start pumping up likes, comments and shares.
Engage!
So how do you get those likes, comments and shares? Get people talking about you on social media! Make yourself more visible either by sharing a funny image or video related to your business. Share a relevant news article, a viral “Top 10” list, ask a question – the point here is to converse with your audience.
Facebook Apps
Did you know that Apps that keep your customers informed, promote events, or gain feedback also count as audience engagement? Google often indexes and includes links to apps in search results which allows your business to drive more traffic to your website. Get more links than your competitors by pulling your audience in to your website.
Being on social media isn’t enough anymore. It is a great tool to help you pop up on SERPs but if your customers can’t find you; you are wasting your time.
